Who this is for in Maldives
Two groups read this page. Maldivian students and parents, for whom going abroad to study is normal because few degrees are taught on the islands. And Indian families living in the Maldives, many of them teachers, doctors and nurses, whose children attend school in Malé or Hulhumalé.

The decision
Which stream to take into the O-level years, which A-levels to follow it with, and which country to study in afterwards.
- “Her atoll school only offers the Business stream. Does that close medicine for good?”
- “Is India the right place for him, or should we look at Malaysia like his brother did?”
- “He is good at everything in Grade 8. How do we choose a stream for a child like that?”
School systems, and where the assessment fits
- Stream choice before O-levels
- The report’s stream ranking sets Science with Mathematics, Science with Biology, Commerce, Arts and a vocational route side by side. For a Maldivian student the first three are the Science and Business streams, and the note on what each one closes off answers the medicine question directly.
- A-levels in Grades 11 and 12
- A student who already has O-level results and is picking three or four A-level subjects should take the Class 11–12 assessment, which matches careers and the degrees that lead to them.
Studying in Maldives, or elsewhere
- The Maldives National University, Villa College and the Islamic University of Maldives teach degrees in Malé, in a limited range of fields.
- Government scholarship and student-loan schemes fund study abroad in priority areas, and are announced each year.
- Sri Lanka and Malaysia are the usual alternatives to India for cost and distance.
If India is one of your options
- India is one of the most common destinations for Maldivian students, and the High Commission of India in Malé handles ICCR scholarship applications each year.
- The Study in India portal lists universities and courses that accept Maldivian applicants on their O-level and A-level results.
- For MBBS in India a qualifying NEET-UG score is required. No Maldivian city appears on the recent overseas centre list, so the nearest centres are in Colombo and southern India.
What you get, wherever you study
You do not need to be planning on an Indian college to use this. The assessment looks at you, not at a syllabus or a country: what interests you, how you work, how you reason, and which careers and fields of study fit that. It is open to students of any nationality, and they use it to choose subjects and a direction for study in Maldives or anywhere else.
The profile and the list of matched careers are about the student, and they hold in Malé as well as anywhere. The colleges, the exams and the pay figures in the report are Indian, which is helpful for a family planning study in India and says nothing about courses at MNU.
Prices when paying from Maldives
Reports are priced in Indian rupees. A Maldivian bank card with international online payments switched on pays in a minute, converted from rufiyaa at your bank’s rate; some cards have a monthly foreign-currency limit, so check that first.

Questions from families in Maldives
- When should a Maldivian student take the assessment?
- In the year before streams are allocated — Grade 8 at most schools. That is the Class 8–10 assessment. Taking it after the stream is fixed still helps with A-level choices.
- Our internet on the island is slow. Will it work?
- The assessment is plain text pages with no video. Each answer is saved as you give it, so a dropped connection loses nothing and you carry on from the same question.
- Does it cover careers in tourism and hospitality?
- Yes. Hotel management, culinary, aviation and travel careers are in the career database alongside medicine, engineering, teaching and the rest.
For schools. Schools in Malé, Hulhumalé and the atolls can register free, look at five full reports, and then give Grade 8 one link before stream allocation.
