- Helping patients wash, dress, move and eat, with dignity intact
- Recording temperature, pulse, blood pressure and intake and output
- Turning and positioning patients who cannot move themselves
- Keeping the bedside, linen and equipment clean and ready
- Telling the nurse promptly when something about a patient has changed

- What the education journey is really like
- A certificate or diploma in nursing assistance, general duty assistance or patient care, often through NSDC-affiliated healthcare skill programmes or a hospital's own training. Entry needs Class 10 or 12. Many assistants go on to GNM or B.Sc. Nursing, and hospital experience counts in those admissions and in the work itself.
