What is genuinely hard
- Pass rates at each stage are low, and most people take more than one attempt
- The route is measured in years, and the drop-out point is usually the second stage
- Filing seasons are severe and fall at fixed dates you cannot negotiate
- Routine compliance work is being automated, and the field is moving toward advisory
- Who tends to enjoy this work
- Notice when something does not add up and cannot let it go, are content with detailed work for hours at a time, and can hold a position when a client is pushing hard for a different one.

- Three stages of professional examination with articleship in the middle, and it is common to take longer than the minimum.
