- Designing well programmes — casing, mud, completion — and revising them as drilling goes

- A B.Tech in petroleum engineering, or mechanical or chemical engineering with a petroleum M.Tech — IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Pandit Deendayal and the recognised departments. GATE opens ONGC and Oil India recruitment, which is the largest employer. Service companies recruit on campus and post you internationally early.

Service companies and international work

- Field engineer with an international service company
- Technical or operations specialisation, often abroad
Better paid and far more mobile, and exposed directly to the commodity cycle.
Who may not enjoy being a Petroleum Engineer?
