- Long hours seated, which takes a physical toll people underestimate
- The gap between a tutorial and production code is far wider than it looks
- On-call rotations in some roles mean the job follows you home
- The graduate market is crowded, and the first role is harder to get than the second
- Who tends to enjoy this work
- Are content to sit with something unsolved for hours, would rather find out why than be told, and can keep going through the stretch where nothing works and there is nobody to ask.
